BONDI2BERRY
The Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember is an open road cycling charity event that takes riders on a scenic 155-kilometre journey from Sydney to the New South Wales South Coast. The ride rolls out from the beachside setting of North Bondi and follows a demanding course through the Royal National Park, Wollongong, and Kiama, before reaching the finish line in the historic township of Berry. As an open road event sanctioned by AusCycling, participants ride in structured, paced pelotons under normal road rules, navigating a mix of rolling coastal terrain and significant local climbs.
Established in 2016 by co-founders who experienced the impacts of dementia within their own families, the event serves as the flagship fundraiser for the Dementia Research Community. Over its history, the ride has brought together hundreds of cyclists and volunteers annually, raising more than $1.9 million to fund laboratory-based scientific research aimed at finding a cure. With dementia standing as a leading cause of death in Australia, the fundraising milestones achieved by the community directly support grants and targeted diagnostic projects.
The event is designed specifically for experienced road cyclists who possess the fitness and group-riding skills required to sustain a high mileage day. Participants choose from four designated pace groups, ensuring that riders are matched with others of similar capabilities to maintain a steady, safe double-paceline formation throughout the day. The combination of physical endurance, coordinated group dynamics, and a shared commitment to a critical health cause creates a distinct, community-focused atmosphere that extends from the early morning start to the post-ride gathering on the South Coast.
