BRIDGE TO BRIDGE NORTH
The Bridge to Bridge North mountain bike ride takes place on the northern bank of the Waimakariri River, offering a unique mid-winter challenge in the Canterbury region. Unlike many traditional mountain bike races that focus on technical climbing, this event is almost entirely downhill, following the river’s natural flow from the gorge towards the Pacific Ocean.
Running for over a decade, the "North" edition of this iconic race has become a staple for South Island riders looking to maintain their fitness during the cooler months. The course features a mix of fast-rolling stop banks, shingle-riverbed roads, and flowing singletrack sections. It serves as a fundraiser for local causes, including the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust and Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand.
Whether you are a competitive rider aiming for a fast 60km time or a family looking for a safe, accessible 15km introduction to mountain bike racing, the Bridge to Bridge North delivers a well-supported environment. All gates along the river are opened for the event, ensuring a fluid, uninterrupted ride from start to finish on Raven Quay in Kaiapoi.
