Gold Trail is a 40km mountain bike ride through the untamed beauty of New Zealand's West Coast, tracing the historic gold-rush routes that both settlers and Chinese prospectors once walked in search of riches. Starting from the heritage streets of Shantytown, the route winds through native fern-laden forest, along natural creeks, past towering rimu trees, and through forestry roads rich with surprises. The ride finishes dramatically at Moana on the shore of Lake Brunner, crossing the Arnold River via a swing bridge before reaching the Moana Hotel for a well-earned Montieth's beer.
