MOUNT ISA BORDER RIDE

Location: QLD
Date: Saturday, July 25, 2026

The Mount Isa Border Ride is an endurance charity road cycling event in outback Queensland. Cyclists take on a challenging 200km journey along the remote Barkly Highway, tracing the historic route from the mining hub of Mount Isa to Camooweal near the Northern Territory border. This fully supported single-day event trades standard coastal scenery for wide-open horizons, red dirt vistas, and unpredictable outback headwinds.

Established in 2008, the ride has become a significant fixture on the regional calendar. It serves as a major fundraising vehicle for local community groups and charities, drawing over 100 dedicated participants to the region each winter. The sense of camaraderie is a defining feature, as riders band together to conquer the vast distances of the northwestern Queensland landscape.

The event structure caters to a variety of endurance goals, welcoming both solo riders aiming to complete the entire distance and relay teams sharing the workload. Given the course’s isolated nature, every participant must have a dedicated support vehicle and crew, making it a true collective effort between cyclists and their support networks.
