PEAKS CHALLENGE
The Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is widely regarded as one of the toughest single-day road cycling events in the world, comparable to a mountain stage of the Grand Tours. Scheduled for Sunday 7 March 2027, the ride starts and finishes at the alpine village of Falls Creek, taking riders on a 235km loop through the heart of the Victorian High Country. This is not a race, but a test of endurance and mental fortitude where every participant chases the same goal: crossing the finish line within the 13-hour deadline to earn the coveted finishers jersey.
Since its inception in 2010, the "Peaks" has grown into a legendary fixture of the Australian cycling calendar. It is organised by Bicycle Network, a charity dedicated to making bike riding easier for everyone, with proceeds supporting initiatives like the Ride2School program. The event typically draws over 2,000 riders, many of whom spent months following structured 16-week training plans to prepare for the 4000+ metres of vertical gain.
Riders are supported by a professional infrastructure that includes closed roads, wave leaders setting specific paces (from sub-8 to 13 hours), and comprehensive food and mechanical valets. Whether you are aiming for a sub-10 hour personal best or simply fighting to beat the "SAG wagon" on the final climb, the community atmosphere and the shared struggle across the Alpine Shire create a unique bond among those who take on the challenge.
