THE DEVIL'S CARDIGAN

Location: TAS
Date: Saturday, June 20, 2026

The Devil's Cardigan is a premier winter gravel racing festival held in the dramatic landscapes of northeast Tasmania. Starting from the historic mountain biking hub of Derby, the event takes riders deep into the unforgiving backcountry, traversing dense rainforest gullies, open alpine plateaus, and spectacular wilderness. Far from a gentle winter cruise, the course delivers a fierce physical test defined by long, sustained climbs and unpredictable alpine weather.

First run by King Miller Events and Tasmanian Gravel Tours, the race quickly established a formidable reputation. In 2023 and 2024, it proudly hosted the AusCycling Gravel National Championships, drawing elite fields from across Australasia. Building upon this domestic success, the event has joined the prestigious UCI Gravel World Series. Winners of the elite categories do not just chase podium glory; they compete for the legendary prize of a handmade woolly cardigan alongside a 10-kilogram sack of local Tasmanian potatoes.

The festival caters to a wide spectrum of gravel riders across two distinct distance options. Competitive racers looking to secure a spot at the UCI Gravel World Championships will face the gruelling 106-kilometre-long course. Meanwhile, riders seeking a demanding yet non-qualifying personal challenge can opt for the 54-kilometre short course. Both routes conclude with a lively post-race celebration, featuring open fires and local tap takeovers to thaw out after a hard day in the saddle.

The event takes place on the traditional lands of the pairrebeenne people, who have a deep, enduring connection to this Country.
