THUNDERBOLTS ADVENTURE
The event is named for Captain Thunderbolt, the bushranger who roamed the Barrington Tops region in the 1860s. You’ll cross his country and its deep eucalypt forest, high alpine plateau, and remote gravel roads in this adventure.
There are four course options, from a 40km loop designed for families and beginners right up to The Monument: 173km and 3,526 metres of climbing in a single day. Riders on the Monument start at dawn, pass through multiple climate zones as they ascend to the Barrington plateau, and return to Gloucester to be met with cheers, cold drinks, and the kind of post-ride camaraderie that makes this event sell out year after year.
There is also a self-directed bikepacking option called The Pilgrim, which involves from 250 to 500 kilometers of riding. Just make Gloucester your midpoint and arrive in time for dinner with everyone else on Saturday, 25 April.
The 2026 edition falls on ANZAC Day, with riders joining the Gloucester community at a dawn service before the rides begin.
Thunderbolts Adventure is one of three tough gravel rides organised by Graveleur that are all named for famous bushrangers. Do them all and you’ll win both bragging rights and an exclusive commemorative belt buckle.
