GRAND SLAM #2 MT TORRENS
Launch into the autumn section of the series with SA Grand Slam #2 Mount Torrens, a fully supported open-road cycling challenge that tests riders across the shifting hillsides of the northern Adelaide Hills. Moving out from the historical enclave of Mount Torrens, this second round raises the stakes by stepping up the distance profile from the season opener. Participants tackle a choice of a 50km or a 100km loop, confronting rolling elevation and rural ribbons of tarmac that demand strategic energy management early in the cycling calendar.
Organised by Bicycle SA, this series is explicitly designed around a framework of progressive endurance. Instead of presenting a high-pressure racing layout, the non-competitive format allows riders to focus heavily on training metrics, group communication, and drafting dynamics. As a fixture on the local calendar for years, the event fosters an inclusive environment where individuals building toward a season milestone ride alongside seasoned club cyclists maintaining their baseline fitness.
The routes wind along low-traffic regional back roads, presenting a tapestry of native gum corridors, vineyard margins, and historic farming hamlets. Opting for either the single-loop half-distance or the full-century loop allows participants to develop their climbing cadence over sustained rollers. The physical effort is fully supported by comprehensive road security, including roving mechanical support, clear directional marshalling, and well-stocked aid stations to ensure a highly structured, stress-free day of distance building.
